AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

Bubble Teams- None

3 Players to Watch

  1. Marqus Blakely (Vermont)- He single-handidly dominated the conference.  He was 2nd in scoring (17.4 ppg), 2nd in rebounding (9.1 rpg), 4th in assists (3.7 apg), 1st in blocks (1.9 bpg) and 1st in steals (2.6 spg).
  2. Muhammad El-Amin (Stony Brook)- He is the brother of the former Connecticut star Khalid El-Amin.  He averaged 16.5 ppg for Stony Brook this season.  Named the league’s Player of the Year.
  3. Alvin Abreu (New Hampshire)- Averaged 14.6 ppg for the Wildcats.

Projected Championship Game- 1. Stony Brook (22-8) (13-3) vs 2. Vermont (22-9) (12-4)

Stony Brook is led by three guards; Muhammad El-Amin, Bryan Dougher and Chris Martin.  Dallis Joyner is a solid big.

Coming into the season, Marqus Blakely was the 2-time Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.  Even with the graduation of the all-time assist leader, Mike Trimboli, Vermont finished 2nd in the America East.

Prediction– Stony Brook, Vermont has the experience, but I really like the trio of guards Stony Brook possesses.  Both teams can score, it should be an exciting Title Game.

Projected NCAA Tournament Seed– Stony Brook (15)
