YOOOAdrian’s 2010 World Cup Recap- 7/11 Day 31

WORLD CUP FINAL

SPAIN vs NETHERLANDS (Spa- 1-0 ET)

  • Congratulations to Spain for their 1st World Cup win in their country’s history!  Let’s get serious now, for a World Cup Final match, this was pathetic, this game flat-out stunk.  It was boring, both teams played not to lose rather than trying to win.  At least the better team won, because Spain did outplay Holland.
  • There was a World Cup Finals record 14 cards dished out.  The play was ugly, and extremely dirty at times.
  • This was a game of missed chances, especially for Holland’s Arjen Robben.  He had 2 great chances.  His breakaway to start the 2nd-half was a golden opportunity, but Robben couldn’t finish.  He seemed to be more intent to draw fouls, than to score goals.  He lacked the necessary composure.
  • Spain finally got the World Cup clinching goal off the foot of Andres Iniesta.  Iniesta showed fantastic skill, technique and composure on the half-volley.
  • Holland now has an 0-3 record in World Cup Final matches. In each game, Holland did not play aggressively enough to deserve the win.
  • Quick Facts- Spain’s 8 total goals in the World Cup is the least number of goals for a World Cup Champion.
  • Men of the Match
  • Spain- Andres Iniesta
  • Netherlands- Wesley Sneijder
  • GAME RATING- 1*

Pride for Africa as Spain strike gold
